Roof Repair and Roof Replacement in Schertz

Located in Comal County where the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers meet along Interstate 35, Schertz has established itself as one of Central Texas’s most beloved and historic communities. Founded by German settlers in 1845, Schertz is now vibrant and a place where the historic Gruene district, Schlitterbahn Waterpark, Landa Park, the annual Wurstfest, and the spring-fed rivers unite with rich German heritage and Hill Country charm.

Driftwood Builders Roofing inspects, repairs and replaces roofs across Schertz, Texas - from the older streets off Main Street and FM 78, north through the Guadalupe County subdivisions, and south into the 78154 pocket that runs down toward the Converse line.

We are a GAF Master Elite contractor, BBB A+ accredited, and we have been working on Central and South Texas roofs for more than twenty years. Inspections are free, and the photo report is yours to keep whether or not anything comes of it.

Storm damage in Schertz? The photographs further down this page are from an actual Schertz roof we inspected. They will give you a far better sense of what hail damage looks like on a real roof than any stock image will.

Schertz Is Not One Roofing Market

This matters more here than in most cities, and almost nobody says it out loud.

Schertz is long and narrow. It runs roughly nine miles from the Cibolo Creek bottoms in the northeast down to the Bexar County line in the southwest, and it crosses three counties on the way - Guadalupe, Comal and Bexar. Two ZIP codes carry most of the housing: 78108 in the north and centre, and 78154 in the south.

For roofing, the split shows up in two ways.

Housing stock. The northern and central subdivisions skew newer, with a great deal of construction from the 2000s onward and the architectural asphalt shingle that came with it. Further south and along the older corridors you find more 1970s and 1980s homes, three-tab shingle on the ones that have not been re-roofed since, and more varied roof geometry.

Storm exposure. Weather does not respect a city limit, and Schertz is long enough that one end of it can take a serious hit while the other end gets rain. That is not hypothetical. It is close to exactly what the records show happened in September 2026, and it is set out in detail on the September 11, 2026 Schertz hail storm page.

So when someone tells you "Schertz got hail", the honest follow-up question is which part of Schertz - and the honest way to answer it is to look at your own roof rather than at a map.

What a Schertz Roof Actually Looked Like

These are our own photographs, taken on a Schertz roof. They are not stock images, and they are not borrowed from another city.

Chalk tally marks beside hail impacts across asphalt shingles on a Schertz, TX roof
Impacts marked on a Schertz roof as they were found. Each mark is one strike, recorded individually so the total can be traced back to specific shingles rather than to an impression. Observed during a Driftwood Builders Roofing inspection in Schertz, Texas.
Chalk marks beside darkened hail impact points on weathered asphalt shingles
The same approach carried across an elevation. Density over a whole slope is a different finding from a single hit, and it is the finding that actually moves a decision. Observed during a Driftwood Builders Roofing inspection in Schertz, Texas.
Chalk rubbed across the top of a metal roof vent, revealing scuffed impact marks in the soft metal
Chalk rubbed flat across the top of a metal roof vent. Soft metal records impacts more honestly than shingle does, which is why an inspection that never touches the vents, flashing and gutter metal is not a finished inspection. Observed during a Driftwood Builders Roofing inspection in Schertz, Texas.

There is a longer, fully captioned set on the Schertz hail damage and roof inspection page, including what the chalk is actually for, how a test area gets counted, and why a photograph of one impact does not by itself decide anything.

What We Do in Schertz

  • Free roof inspections. Full photo report, documented slope by slope, yours to keep.
  • Hail and storm damage assessment. Impacts marked and counted, soft metals checked, collateral components photographed. See the Schertz inspection page.
  • Roof repair. Leaks, flashing failures, damaged penetrations, missing or lifted shingles.
  • Roof replacement. Architectural asphalt, impact-resistant Class 4, standing-seam and exposed-fastener metal.
  • The rest of the exterior. Siding, gutters, soffit and fascia, windows and doors, exterior paint. Hail that reaches a roof usually reaches the walls too.

On storm and insurance work, plainly

We document. We do not adjudicate.

What that means in practice: we photograph and record what is on your roof, give you the report, and build an estimate for the work. What we will not do is tell you your claim is going to be approved, negotiate the claim on your behalf, or offer to absorb your deductible. The first is not ours to promise. The second is restricted under Texas Insurance Code §4102.163 for a contractor who is also bidding the job. The third is illegal in Texas under §707.003. Anyone offering you all three in a driveway conversation is telling you something useful about themselves.

Roof Repair in Schertz, Done Right the First Time

Most Schertz roofing calls start with a leak, and about a third of the roofs we inspect need a repair, not a replacement. We get on the roof, find the true source of the water rather than just the ceiling stain, and show you photos before any work begins.

On older homes, most leaks trace back to a chimney flashing, a plumbing vent boot, a tired valley, or a section of failed sealant, not the whole roof. We fix the real problem with materials matched to your specific roof, whether it is asphalt shingle, tile, standing seam metal, or flat and low-slope TPO.

If a repair is only a short-term patch, we tell you honestly and put the replacement number beside it so you can decide with real figures in front of you. When a storm is behind the damage, we document it with photos and help with your insurance claim.

Roof Replacement in Schertz, No Runaround

When a Schertz roof has genuinely reached the end of its life, a full replacement is better long-term value than paying for repeated repairs. Most homes are a one to three day job, and many single-story roofs are finished in a single day. We never leave a roof open overnight.

Every replacement includes a full tear-off to the deck, a decking inspection with any rotted sheets replaced at a stated per-sheet rate agreed up front, new leak barrier and underlayment, new flashing, drip edge and valleys, balanced attic ventilation, and a thorough magnetic nail sweep and cleanup.

For most homes, architectural asphalt shingles such as GAF Timberline HDZ give the best balance of value and hail resistance, and impact-resistant Class 4 shingles often earn an insurance discount. Standing seam metal reflects more heat and lasts 40 to 70 years. There is no deposit; you pay once the finished roof passes inspection.

What Is Included in a Schertz Roof Replacement

01

Full Tear-Off

We remove the old roof down to the deck so we can inspect and rebuild the system correctly.

02

Decking Inspection

We check the decking and replace any rotted sheets at a stated per-sheet rate agreed up front.

03

Leak Barrier & Underlayment

We install premium leak barrier and underlayment for a watertight foundation.

04

New Flashing & Ventilation

We install new flashing, drip edge, and valleys, and balance the attic ventilation.

05

Shingle or Metal Install

We install your chosen system to spec, six nails per shingle, every course.

06

Ridge Cap & Cleanup

We finish the ridge, run a magnetic nail sweep, and haul away every scrap.

How to Decide Between a Roof Repair and a Roof Replacement

Repair when the damage is isolated, one leak, one flashing, a handful of shingles, and the surrounding roof still has life. Replace when shingles are brittle across whole slopes, when a tile or metal system has failed, or when hail hit more than one elevation. A repair is almost always cheaper up front, but if the roof is near the end of its life, replacing once beats paying for repeated repairs.

Other Roofing and Exterior Services in Schertz

Driftwood Builders Roofing is a full-service roofing and exterior contractor in Schertz. Alongside roof repair and roof replacement, we handle the work most roofers send elsewhere.

Siding Installation & Repair

James Hardie fiber cement and vinyl siding, installed and repaired. Storm damage usually hits the roof and siding together, so we assess both in one visit.

Gutter Installation

Seamless gutters and gutter guards that protect Schertz’s older homes and mature-tree lots from water damage. Ask about adding gutters when we quote your roof.

Skylight Installation & Repair

New skylights installed and leaking ones repaired. The best time to add one is during a roof replacement, while the deck is open, so it is flashed properly.

Metal Roofing

Standing seam metal, the most popular upgrade from tile on older homes. Lighter on an old deck, lasts 40 to 70 years, and reflects Austin heat.

Tile Roof Repair

Cracked and slipped clay and concrete tile repaired, along with the underlayment beneath it, which is where most tile roofs actually leak.

Commercial & Flat Roofing

TPO and other flat and low-slope systems installed and repaired for commercial buildings and modern flat-roof homes around central Austin.

Free Roof Inspections

Every inspection is free, including a full photo report and the remaining roof life in writing. We get on the roof, not just look from the driveway.

Storm & Insurance Claims

We document storm damage, meet your adjuster on the roof, and make sure the claim reflects the real damage. You file as the policyholder, we handle the roof side.

Schertz Roofing Questions, Answered

Does Driftwood Builders Roofing work in Schertz, TX?

Yes. Schertz sits in the northeast corner of our San Antonio-area service map, alongside Converse, Universal City, Cibolo and St. Hedwig. Inspections are free and include a full photo report you keep, whether or not you go on to file anything or hire anyone.

How quickly can you get out to a Schertz roof?

Most Schertz inspections are scheduled within a few business days. If you have an active leak, say so when you call and it is treated as urgent rather than routine, because water moving through a roof assembly does more damage the longer it runs.

Which county is Schertz in, and does it change the permit?

Schertz straddles three counties – Guadalupe, Comal and Bexar – and the City of Schertz issues its own building permits regardless of which county line your lot falls behind. The practical answer is that your permit comes from the City of Schertz, and we pull it.

Do you charge for a roof inspection in Schertz?

No. The inspection and the photo report are free. We will tell you plainly if your roof does not need work, which happens more often than people expect after a storm.

Can you tell me whether my insurance will pay for a new roof?

No, and be wary of anyone who says they can. Coverage is your insurer’s decision, made against your specific policy, your deductible and their own adjuster’s findings. What we can do is document the roof accurately and hand you evidence you can use. Under Texas Insurance Code §4102.163 a roofing contractor may not act as a public adjuster on a claim they are also bidding, so we do not negotiate your claim for you.

What roofing materials do you install in Schertz?

Architectural asphalt shingle is the default across most of Schertz, and it is what the majority of the newer subdivisions were built with. We also install impact-resistant Class 4 shingle, standing-seam and exposed-fastener metal, and we handle the rest of the exterior – siding, gutters, soffit and fascia, windows and exterior paint – because hail rarely confines itself to the roof.
